Thank Goodness for Good Women

Thank Goodness for Good Women

I am so incredibly grateful for women.

I had a few really rough solo days as a mom this week, and honestly, I don't know how I would have gotten through them without the women around me. And the crazy part? These weren't family or close friends. They were simply women in my space who noticed I needed help and stepped in.

On Monday, I had a dentist appointment to get a cap and a cavity filled. My teeth seem to completely fall apart every time I'm postpartum, so here we are again. 😂 I had no choice but to bring my three-year-old and five-month-old with me.

Of course, my baby started crying while I was getting my tooth drilled. So there I was, sitting in the dentist's chair, taking off my shoe and rocking his stroller with my foot while getting a cavity filled.

Toward the end of the appointment, I couldn't move because I was getting my cap put on. The nurse looked at me and said, "May I?" She picked up my son and rocked him while I finished my appointment.

I apologized for the chaos, and instead of making me feel like an inconvenience, she reassured me. She then gathered all my belongings, helped me get my kids together, and even walked me out to hold the door.

Such a small gesture, but it meant so much to me.

Then on Wednesday, I had an emergency appointment with my oral surgeon because I had cracked a molar from clenching my teeth so hard at night. I needed an extraction, bone graft, and stitches for another implant. And, again, I had my kids with me.

They told me we could reschedule because the kids couldn't be in the room during the procedure. But a nurse had overheard the situation and offered to watch my children so I could have the procedure done.

I was blown away.

My daughter immediately loved her, and while I was having my procedure, a female doctor and two female nurses cared for my children in the next room. I felt so much warmth, relief, and reassurance knowing they were there.

These women didn't have to help me. They didn't know me. They weren't my family or friends.

They were simply women who saw another woman struggling and stepped in. Motherhood is hard. But it doesn't have to be lonely. And I hope every chance I get, I can be that woman for someone else.
