How Massage Therapy Helps Moms Thrive

Hi there! Whether you’re expecting or already caring for your little one, first of all—you're doing an amazing job. Pregnancy and motherhood are beautiful, life-changing journeys, but let’s be real—they can also take a serious toll on your body and mind. From aches and pains to sleepless nights (and everything in between), it’s a lot. That’s where massage comes in. It’s more than just a treat—it’s a way to support your well-being during this incredible and demanding chapter of life.

Let’s start with the basics. Prenatal massage is all about supporting your body while it goes through some massive changes. We’re talking relief for those achy hips, swollen ankles, and even that lightning (ahem...) pelvic pain. Pregnancy requires so much of your body, and massage can ease that tension while improving circulation and even helping you sleep better. Plus, it lowers stress hormones while boosting the feel-good ones, which is good for both you and your baby. Postpartum massage picks up where prenatal care leaves off, helping you recover, balance your hormones, and feel like yourself again as you adjust to life with your little one.

But massage therapy is not just about physical relief—it’s about emotional support too. The journey of parenthood is full of big feelings, and they’re not always the “glowy” ones people like to talk about. Anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma can feel even heavier during this time, whether you're processing infertility, IVF, loss, or just the huge life shift that comes with motherhood. Massage works with your body to calm the nervous system, regulate mood, and provide a sense of grounding when everything feels overwhelming. It’s a safe space to feel cared for, held, and supported—not just physically, but emotionally too.

Here's something major to know: not all massage therapists are trained for this kind of work, and that’s really important. When you’re pregnant or postpartum, it’s not as simple as lying down for a typical massage. A prenatal specialist knows how to safely position you and adjust techniques to work with your unique body. They also understand how to meet you where you are emotionally. When you’re looking for a therapist, ask questions about their training and experience. Your safety and comfort should always come first.

So, what happens during a prenatal or postpartum massage? If you’ve never had one, it might feel a little intimidating, but I promise it’s not. You’ll be surrounded by pillows or bolsters to make sure you’re fully supported (and cozy). Be honest and up front with your massage therapist about your health or any concerns- there's no such thing as TMI! During the session, your therapist will check in with you about what feels good and focus on areas where you’re feeling tension. For postpartum sessions, we’ll target those post-baby aches and pains, like sore shoulders from feeding or carrying your baby, while also helping you relax and recharge. And if you’re carrying emotional weight, massage can help create space for you to breathe and reset.

For me, this work is a labor of love. As the owner of Black Lotus Therapeutics, I’ve dedicated my practice to helping women feel supported throughout this entire journey and beyond. I know how deeply massage can support both the body and the heart. My goal is to create a space where you feel seen, heard, and cared for—exactly as you are. This isn’t just a job for me; it’s my passion, and it’s an honor to walk alongside you during this season of your life.

So if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or unsure if massage is right for you, let me assure you—it’s not just a luxury. It’s a way to care for your whole self, inside and out. You deserve care, comfort, and balance every step of the way.
