Winter with a toddler is wow. It’s too cold to spend much time outside, and the thought of taking my little one to an indoor play area, surrounded by germs, makes me cringe. (certified germaphobe) I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling this way— but i'm sure I am also on the extreme side. Regardless, keeping a toddler entertained while avoiding crowded spots can be tough. Pinterest is such a great place for ideas, here are a few activities I have done with my toddler to keep busy and happy indoors:
-
Indoor Obstacle Course
I love using pillows, blankets, and chairs to create a little obstacle course in the living room. It’s a fun way for my toddler to burn off energy, and they enjoy crawling, jumping, and climbing through it. She recently has been loving hide and seek and peak a boo with it as well! -
Sensory Bins Snow Edition
I fill a plastic container with a bunch of snow and I lay out a big towel on the floor. We play with her "friends" (toys) and some kitchen utensils and build snowmen and mountains and have the best time! -
Hide & Seek
Recently my daughter loves to say, "where did they go?!" To capitalize on that, I hide one of her toys around the room and she loves to explore and try and find it. Its so simple but so fun. -
Art Projects
My toddler loves to get creative, so we’ve been doing some simple art projects with finger paints or markers. It’s so so messy, but watching them express themselves is always a joy. -
Baking/Cooking Together
My daughter loves to cook and clean and vacuum lol. I joke that she is in her grandma era. She loves helping in the kitchen, I let her stir ingredients and shke in spices. It’s a great bonding experience, and she loves to be involved.
Winter can sometimes feel long, but these activities have been a lifesaver for keeping my toddler entertained, engaged, and happy while trying to avoid germs! I’ve realized that staying cozy and making the most of our time indoors can be really special too. 😊
